Studio Pottery Bowl in Turquoise with Hand Decorated Giraffe

This little bowl is a lovely example of a maker's hand at work. Thrown by hand and glazed in a vivid turquoise across the interior and rim, it contrasts beautifully with the cream outer body, which is decorated with a giraffe worked into the surface and framed by a fine crosshatched pattern. It is drawn with real care and a good eye for character, detail that only comes from a person making one piece at a time.

Height: 7cm (2.8in)
Diameter: 10cm (3.9in)

We love how tactile it is. At 7 cm tall and 10 cm across it is a really useful size, right for cereal, a scoop of nuts, or holding rings and trinkets on a dressing table, and the spiralling throwing rings inside the base are a reminder that this was made on a wheel rather than a machine. The turquoise glaze pools and shifts where it catches the light, giving each angle something slightly different to enjoy.

Condition is very good, with a bright glaze and crisp decoration, all shown closely in the photographs. It is signed to the base by its maker, the mark of a piece made with intention rather than mass produced.

A bowl like this brings colour and craft to a shelf, a table or a kitchen, and it mixes beautifully with other studio ceramics, vintage glassware and natural textures. Use it every day or let it stand as a small sculptural moment among your favourite things. Pieces like this give a home character, one well chosen object at a time.
