Benjamin Eeles Studio Pottery Stoneware Bowl

This vintage stoneware bowl was made by British studio potter Benjamin Eeles of Shepherd’s Well Pottery in Mosterton, Beaminster, Dorset. It is a fine example of his hand thrown work, showcasing the warm, natural tones and expressive glazes that define the Eeles family tradition. Measuring approximately 14.5 by 5.5 centimetres, the bowl has a gently flared form with a speckled exterior and a richly glazed interior in deep green, soft blue and warm brown.

The original maker’s labels are still in place, confirming its provenance and noting that it was wood fired in a three chambered climbing kiln to around 1250 degrees. This firing method produces distinctive tonal variation and subtle surface movement, both visible in the interior glaze. The bowl carries the character of handmade studio pottery, with light age related wear entirely consistent with its material and process.

The balance between the raw stoneware body and the glossy, painterly interior makes this a particularly attractive decorative piece. It sits well on open shelving, a console or bedside table, and is an easy size for keys, jewellery or simple styling. Its natural palette works with linen, oak, woven baskets and other earthy textures.
