Antique Ridgways Stoneware Mug Set in Coaching Days and Coaching Ways Print

A wonderful set of 5 Ridgways stoneware mugs from the Coaching Days and Coaching Ways series, with those much loved coaching scenes printed in black over an amber and brown ground. They have real character on an open shelf and make a brilliant, usable set for everyday tea and coffee.

A lovely collector detail to know: Ridgways chose the scenes from the 1888 book Coaching Days and Coaching Ways by W Outram Tristram, using illustrations by Hugh Thomson and Herbert Railton, and many pieces carry wording that notes they were used by permission of the publisher Macmillan and Co Ltd.

This set includes a larger mug and smaller mugs, all sold together as a set of 5. The largest measures 12 cm high and 11.5 cm across to the handle. The smallest measures 6 cm high and 6.5 cm across to the handle. They style beautifully with blue and white ceramics, pewter, brass, and linen, and they look especially good on kitchen shelves alongside cookbooks and vintage trays.

As vintage stoneware, expect light age related signs of use consistent with pieces of this type and era.
