Antique Ridgways Stoneware Jug in Coaching Days and Coaching Ways Transfer Print

A wonderfully characterful Ridgways stoneware jug from the Coaching Days and Coaching Ways series, finished in a rich amber treacle glaze with detailed black transfer scenes and silver tone detailing to the rim and handle. It has that unmistakable old inn charm and makes a brilliant piece for styling, whether you use it as a water jug, a generous milk jug for the breakfast table, or as a vase for garden stems.

A lovely collector detail to know: Ridgways based these scenes on the 1888 book Coaching Days and Coaching Ways by W Outram Tristram, illustrated by Hugh Thomson and Herbert Railton, and many pieces reference Macmillan and Co Ltd, the original publisher.

It measures 17.5 cm high and 19 cm across to the handle. As antique stoneware, you can expect gentle signs of age and use, including light crazing and some wear to the silver tone details, which suits the look and period of the piece.
