A charming pair of small Ridgways stoneware tankard mugs from the Coaching Days and Coaching Ways series, finished in warm amber brown with detailed black transfer scenes. They have that instantly recognisable old inn and stagecoach feel, and they look brilliant styled on open kitchen shelves, in a glazed cupboard, or brought out for a cosy tea or a hot chocolate.

A lovely educational detail for collectors: Ridgways selected the scenes from the 1888 book Coaching Days and Coaching Ways by W Outram Tristram, illustrated by Hugh Thomson and Herbert Railton, and many pieces reference Macmillan and Co Ltd, the original publisher.

Each mug measures 10 cm high and approximately 10 cm across. Sold as a pair. As with antique stoneware, expect age related signs of use such as gentle surface wear and light crazing, which suit the character of the set.
