This vintage Hornsea Pottery Heirloom sugar canister is a classic piece of British kitchen design, with a rich brown glaze, embossed pattern and the word SUGAR moulded across the front in bold 1970s lettering. Measuring 11 x 12 cm, it has a compact cylindrical form, a turned wooden lid and an original rubber seal.
The Heirloom range was designed by John Clappison for Hornsea Pottery and became one of the best known British ceramic kitchenware designs of the 1970s. The brown colourway is especially recognisable, with its warm treacle glaze and darker repeating embossed decoration creating a strong graphic effect.
This canister is a lovely piece for a retro kitchen, open shelf, dresser or pantry display. It works beautifully as a single decorative item, but would also sit well alongside other Hornsea Heirloom pieces, studio pottery, wooden boards, vintage glass and warm toned ceramics. The wooden lid adds a natural texture, making the piece easy to style in both mid century inspired interiors and more relaxed country kitchens.
The canister is in good vintage condition with light signs of age and use, all in keeping with a pre loved kitchen ceramic. The lid and seal are present, adding to its practical and decorative appeal. A charming Hornsea Heirloom sugar canister with warmth, pattern and plenty of nostalgic kitchen character.
