This vintage Holkham condiment pot captures the charm of mid-century British pottery with its finely illustrated figures in traditional costume and its earthy green glazed lid. Made in Norfolk by Holkham Pottery, it combines practicality with the warmth of handmade craftsmanship, offering a touch of heritage that feels both rustic and refined.
Holkham Pottery was established in 1951 on the Holkham Estate by the Earl of Leicester and designer Elizabeth Coke. Created to bring local employment to the estate community, the pottery became well known for its durable stoneware and natural glazes in green, brown and cream tones. Production continued until 2007, leaving behind a much-loved legacy of simple, functional, and decorative pieces that reflect the British countryside with quiet character.
Standing 9 cm tall and 8.5 cm in diameter, this pot is the perfect size for mustard, chutney, or sugar. It is made from creamy stoneware with a tactile glaze that feels warm in the hand. The finely printed illustration around the pot lends it a storybook quality — a nostalgic nod to English country life that still fits easily into a contemporary home.
In excellent vintage condition with only minimal surface wear consistent with age, the lid sits neatly and lifts smoothly, making it as practical today as when it was first made.
Styling-wise, this piece adds a note of charm to a breakfast tray, dresser, or open shelf. Pair it with simple white ceramics or wooden boards to highlight its green glaze, or mix it with other Holkham pieces for a collected, cohesive look.
