Davidson Cloud glass bowl

This vintage Davidson cloud glass bowl is a beautiful example of British pressed glass with a softer, more sculptural feel. The shape is low and wide with a raised foot, giving it that floating, cloud like silhouette that looks effortlessly elegant on a shelf or table. The glass is a gentle mauve pink with swirling marbled movement through the bowl, creating depth and a sense of flow when the light hits it.

Davidson began in the North East of England in the nineteenth century, and became especially well loved for its pressed glass tableware. Cloud Glass was introduced in 1923, made by blending darker coloured glass into a paler base so every piece develops its own unique, clouded pattern. That is exactly what makes this bowl so special, no two are ever quite the same.

It is a piece that works brilliantly in a neutral home because it adds colour in a restrained way. The tone is warm and flattering rather than sugary, and the swirl pattern keeps it feeling interesting without being busy. Style it on a coffee table with a stack of books and a small vase, or place it on a sideboard beside framed artwork where the curved lines soften the overall look.
