This antique Prattware pot lid has been framed to create a small but very characterful piece of wall art. The circular ceramic lid is set into a black painted wooden frame that measures around 15 centimetres across and 3 centimetres deep. The image shows a detailed Victorian family interior, with several figures gathered together in a warmly lit room, rendered in soft period colours.
Originally designed as the decorative lid for an ointment or cosmetic pot, Prattware is now highly collectable and framed examples are admired as miniature pictures in their own right. The print on this lid remains clear and nicely toned. The lid currently sits a little loose within the frame and could easily be resecured at the back with fresh card or putty if desired. There is light age related wear to the frame and backing, as you would expect from a nineteenth century piece, but nothing that detracts when on display.
This framed lid is an easy size to place. Hang it on a narrow wall, add it to a picture ledge with other small artworks, or style it on a bookshelf with vintage books and candlesticks for a layered look. It suits both traditional and modern interiors, especially where you want to introduce a touch of Victorian storytelling without taking up much space.
A charming example of Prattware that brings history and detail to any corner of the home.
