Poppy Field Oil Painting of Maplescombe Valley, Kent, Signed and Framed

A charming original oil painting of a poppy field, capturing Maplescombe Valley in the North Downs of west Kent in full summer. Loose, confident brushwork builds a meadow of red poppies swaying against soft green grasses, with rolling hills behind and a big, changeable sky above. The paint is worked with real texture, thick and buttery in the flowers and lighter across the sky, so the surface catches the light and rewards a closer look. It is signed lower left.

Painted in oil on board, it sits in a limed wood frame with a natural linen slip that sets off the greens and reds beautifully and suits both country and more contemporary rooms. Framed, it measures 44 cm by 34 cm, a generous size that reads well on a wall or propped on a shelf, mantel or dresser.

We love the mood of this one. Poppies carry all the feeling of high summer, and this scene has warmth and movement without tipping into sweetness.
