This classic Art Deco pressed glass bowl by George Davidson and Co is made in a soft smoky amethyst that catches the light with real elegance. The radiating panels rise to a gently scalloped rim, a design that is typical of Davidson’s glassware from the 1930s and one that remains especially loved by collectors today. Measuring around 24 centimetres in diameter and 9 centimetres high, it is a versatile medium size that sits comfortably on a coffee table, sideboard or console.
The pressed glass gives the surface a clean architectural feel while the amethyst tone adds warmth and a subtle sense of colour. It can be used for fruit, floating flowers or wrapped sweets at gatherings, yet it is just as striking when left empty as a decorative centrepiece. Its form works easily alongside silver, wood, ceramics or mixed glassware, making it an effortless piece to style throughout the year.
In very good vintage condition with light age related wear, the bowl remains strong and decorative with the expected natural irregularities in surface texture typical of pressed glass of this period.
A refined and practical example of British Art Deco design, it offers both character and usability in a colour that continues to be highly collectable.
