Set of Four Vintage French Henriot Quimper Faience Plates with Scalloped Edge and Hand Painted Shells

This beautiful matching set of 4 vintage French Henriot Quimper faience plates is richly decorative, with hand painted shell motifs set against a deep black ground. Each plate measures 14 cm across and carries the Henriot Quimper mark to the reverse.

Each plate features the same hand painted conch shell in soft pink, coral, yellow and cream tones, surrounded by trailing green seaweed fronds. The dramatic black ground gives the shell decoration wonderful contrast, while the scalloped edge adds shape, movement and charm.

Quimper pottery has been made in the Brittany city of the same name since the late 1600s, and Henriot Quimper is one of its best known names. Each piece is hand painted, so small variations in the brushwork give every plate its own individual character.

These plates work beautifully alongside the matching Henriot Quimper oval platter, creating a coordinated French coastal table setting or decorative display. They could be used as small side plates, dessert plates, bread plates or butter plates, or displayed on a dresser, plate rack, kitchen shelf or dining room wall.
